Data Management Strategy and Open Data Plan
PorchLight Insights worked with the City of Lee’s Summit City Manager’s Office to develop a data management strategy and open data plan through stakeholder surveying and focus groups. This project included assessing the use of data by department staff, identifying key actions for implementation, and advising on a data strategy.
We developed two survey instruments deployed internally that sought to identify gaps in data skills and use. One survey was sent to staff with clear data analysis or reporting roles while another gathered input from department and city management staff. In follow up, we conducted focus groups and presented to the newly formed data governance committee on how to best pursue a data management strategy. Our final products included a recommended course of action, SWOT analysis, and templated presentation for use in communicating our findings.
